About
"There is no future without memory. Without rooting and without memory, people, like men, are just shipwrecked."
- Manuel António Pina
Located in the historical center of Oporto, a World Heritage Site, DOP restaurant is surrounded by the most beautiful monuments, emblematic symbols of the city: Clérigos Church Tower, Stock Exchange Palace, Port Wine Institute, Ferreira Borges Market and S. Francisco and S. Nicolau churches.
DOP is found within the walls of the Palace of arts , which is also a historical building that once was the porch of the former St. Domingos Convent and headquarters to prestigious financial entities such as the Bank of Lisbon (now Bank of Portugal) or the Douro Insurance Company. Throughout the fourteenth century, the building maintained great activity as an auction site and it was also used for the City Hall meetings.
The concept of the Palace of Arts fits perfectly into Rui Paula’s projec, who understands gastronomy as a criativity instrument with a strong cultural side.
